ECUADOR!

July 9 - 27, 2003

Our first sight-seeing trip was to travel north as far as San Antonio de Ibarra.

San Antonio de Ibarra is a little town to the north of Quito. It is a place where you can find many little shops where artists sell beautiful carved wood furniture, home decorations and sculptures. The restaurant, Casa de Fernando, is in Cayambe. We had an excellent meal there on our way to San Antonio de Ibarra.

The pictures of these plants were taken in San Antonio de Ibarra. You can see the wood carving showrooms in the background. The first is a Pointsetta Tree. The second and third pictures are of the native Hibiscus tree that Ron's mom called Cucarda. The forth is a bottle brush tree.

These pictures were taken at a conference and retreat site that had these cute little cabins with hats for roofs. Eugenia wanted to stop and check it out because she said that in order to have a full family reunion, they would have to rent a facility of that size! On the grounds we found this chess board with human size chess pieces. Wacky!
